The rainforest of the sea An ecosystem for life marine Home to fishes, mollusks, and worms Crustaceans, sponges, and echinoderms Symbiosis is the belief In that magical place The coral reef If you scratch my fin, I’ll scratch yours We’ll work together as partners Conquering the rough waters While singing fa la la la la Polyps pack into colonies Hanging out with the green algae Goby fish keep the grouper clean While grouper serves up a sweet cuisine Living together in harmony Makes life so much better in The coral reef If you scratch my fin, I’ll scratch yours We’ll work together as partners Conquering the rough waters While singing fa la la la la If you scratch my fin, I’ll scratch yours We’ll work together as partners Conquering the rough waters While singing fa la la la la

Let's disembark to the arctic Grab your scarfs and ice picks It's gonna be a wonderfully cold time On a quest for vegetation Mosses, shrubs, and lichens But a polar bear or two I'd rather not find There’s so much magic in the arctic What an interesting design Wolverines and caribou Would rather live there than in a zoo For a home it’s a one of a kind! Don't be afraid of our adventure I promise that we'll get there Dodging icebergs and glaciers is just fine So when we finally arrive Our brains will help us survive And if we can't start our car at least we're not in Antarctica! There’s so much magic in the arctic What an interesting design Wolverines and caribou Would rather live there than in a zoo For a home it’s a one of a kind! Oh what joy and jubilation We are safely at the station It isn't exactly what I had in my mind With all these clothes it's getting toasty Please excuse me if I boastfully Admit that the Arctic's kind of nice in the middle of July There’s so much magic in the arctic What an interesting design Wolverines and caribou Would rather live there than in a zoo For a home it’s a one of a kind! For a home it’s a one of a kind! For home it's a one of a beautiful one of a kind!

Antarctica 02:22
Snow, ROCK, water, and ice Antarctica is mighty nice Cold, dry, and windy too Antarctica how I love you I'd love to go to the South Pole where the emperor penguins like to roam To catch a fish in the desert that is the largest one in our earthly home. You heard me right it's a desert The world's largest desert Snow, ROCK, water, and ice Antarctica is mighty nice Cold, dry, and windy too Antarctica how I love you I'd love to see the striped icebergs whose beauty is too much for words Take a vacation at McMurdo Station Where the scientists love to learn and learn So much information My dream destination! Snow, ROCK, water, and ice Antarctica is mighty nice Cold, dry, and windy too Antarctica how I love you I'd love to know if the lakes below the ice have life besides microbes Be such a thrill to responsibly drill to a place where sunlight never goes Biology is entertaining Who needs iPads or gaming! Snow, ROCK, water, and ice Antarctica is mighty nice Cold, dry, and windy too Antarctica how I love Snow, ROCK, water and ice Antarctica is mighty nice Cold, dry, and windy too Antartica, Antarctica how I love you

Blast off! See you later Moon We’re flying out past Jupiter On our way to Neptune! Blast off We won’t stop at Mars Travel through the Milky Way To see some distant stars That are suns for other worlds Exploring in every direction For light years and light years to come The universe in its perfection Who knows where it all came from? Blast off! See you later Moon We’re flying out past Jupiter On our way to Neptune! Blast off We won’t stop at Mars Travel through the Milky Way To see some distant stars That are suns for other worlds That are suns for other worlds

The Beehive 01:44
Busy buzzing honeybees in the beehive Turning nectar into honey so they’ll survive But watch out because bears like honey too! Oooooo Oooooo Oooooo Oooooo Big brown burly bear in the woods Wants to rob the beehive of its precious goods But don’t you know those bees will sting you! Oooooo Oooooo Oooooo Oooooo Busy buzzing honeybees in the beehive Turning nectar into honey so they’ll survive Boy you know it sure was funny Seeing that bear leave without honey Doing the “just got stung by bees bear jive”

Lets go! It’s metamorphose time I was born in a big brown ball Ma was a dweller, she thought of it all Warm bed and lots to eat But something was different with her six feet What's that, they're sayin'? Think they're making jokes about some larvae playing Big brother called me a grub I didn't like that didn't feel the love Don't need to be regal I'd just like to be a beetle Lets go! It’s metamorphose time Instead of running into my room I tucked myself away in a cocoon Entered into the pupa stage Don't bother me for twenty days What's that, they're sayin'? Can't hear a thing when my body's changing I knew when I'd wake up That things would be different I'd no longer be a grub Don't need to be regal I'd just like to be a beetle Lets go! It’s metamorphose time I awoke in the middle of the night The stars were up above the Milky Way was bright Looked to both sides of me Saw two sets of wings they were so fancy What's that they're sayin'? Not really sure I'm too busy surveying. Ran fast and then I sprung Onto the sweetest little piece of dung Don't need to be regal I'd just like to be a beetle Lets go! It’s metamorphose time Lets go! It’s metamorphose time

You're made of gas Lots and lots of gas Nitrogen and oxygen and a few whose names we'll pass Although that could be viewed as rude I just can't decide what to rhyme with argon and carbon dioxide. You give us air to breath Without you there would be no flight for birds or honey bees Pollination would not exist Flowers plants and trees we'd surely miss We'd surely miss But have no fear the atmosphere is here to make the world a special place. You're made of gas Lots and lots of gas Nitrogen and oxygen and a few whose names we'll pass Although that could be viewed as rude I just can't decide what to rhyme with argon and carbon dioxide. You're a super hero that is real Protecting life on earth with your radiation shield Keep us warm in a jacket Safely wrapped in a security blanket Safe and warm So shout with cheer the atmosphere is here to make the world a special place You're made of gas Lots and lots of gas Nitrogen and oxygen and a few whose names we'll pass Although that could be viewed as rude I just can't decide what to rhyme with argon and carbon dioxide. You let us hear the things we do Vibrations travel through the air to get from me to you Music is a lovely thing Love to hear the creatures of earth sing So beautiful So shout with cheer the atmosphere is here to make the world a special place So shout with cheer the atmosphere is here to make the world a special place

Pluto What are you now? My good friend Janet Thought you were a planet But she must have been mistaken somehow I can't imagine what it's like or how it feels To have your name changed overnight Is it like being budged in line or Having to stay inside for recess for the hundredth time? So sad to know The great Pluto is just Asteroid 134340 Pluto What are you now? My good friend Janet Thought you were a planet But she must have been mistaken somehow I think it's just a little rude for the IAU to have your status reduced Is it like someone forgetting your snack or A never-ending stack of papers that get handed back? I am perplexed Yet you still impress Even though you haven't cleared your orbital region of other objects. So sad to know The great Pluto is just Asteroid 134340 So sad to know The great Pluto is just Asteroid 134340

Dinosaurs 01:40
Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs, oh my dinosaurs Some dinosaurs were carnivores Other ones were herbivores If you met one on the street Which one would you rather meet? I’d rather meet an herbivore I wonder do they bark or roar? We’d play games it would be great and I wouldn’t end up on his dinner plate Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs, oh my dinosaurs Those omnivores could get you too On plants and meat they like to chew But don’t you worry little one Those “dino” days are gone and done Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs, oh my dinosaurs Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs, oh my dinosaurs

Pretty Kitty 01:16
Pretty kitty on the floor Sleeps always from five to four Never has a thing to do But drink his milk and look at you Come here see what I found Lets play all day and move around Pretty kitty on my bed Get down because mother said Funny how he looks at me Like I must ask him Pretty please! Come here see what I found Lets play all day and move around Pretty kitty on the floor Sleeps always from five to four Never has a thing to do But drink his milk and look at you

Adaptation 02:46
Put on my big snowshoes And my water resistant coat Pack on a few more pounds To keep me from the cold You see I’ve got it all worked out For living in the arctic freeze But what if I had to move down south Would polar bears like palm trees? I've got my head shaved bald And colored very bright Exercise my beak So it's strong and shaped just right Dining on carrion is fine When you're living in the canopy But what if the king vulture had to Relocate to New York City? Don't want to be endangered Don't want to be extinct Cried the fabulous green sphinx moth To the painted terrapin Habitat is disappearing Adaptation isn't kicking in We've got our comfy clothes And brain that's rather large Walk around the land Knowing we’re in charge Navigate the waterways And manufacture cars But what if we had to leave this place Could humans really live on mars? Don't want to be endangered Don't want to be extinct Cried the fabulous green sphinx moth To the painted terrapin Habitat is disappearing Adaptation isn't kicking in So let’s all work together Protect our habitats Cried every single animal From humans to insects Planet Earth is so worth saving Guess it’s time we start behaving Love to see extinction go extinct

Chloroplasts 02:41
(Chloroplasts) Those organelles (Chloroplasts) In plant and algae cells (Chloroplasts) More cowbell for chloroplasts (Chloroplasts) They are so green (Chloroplasts) It takes a microscope to see them (Chloroplasts) Good golly gee it’s chloroplasts You might say they have special super powers Making their own food without spending any dollars You can’t dismiss photosynthesis They are heroes of this world Yeah Yeah Yeah! (Chloroplasts) Those organelles (Chloroplasts) In plant and algae cells (Chloroplasts) More cowbell for chloroplasts (Chloroplasts) They are so green (Chloroplasts) It takes a microscope to see them (Chloroplasts) Good golly gee it’s chloroplasts I wish that I could create my own sugars No longer would I want to eat my boogers But not so fast Chloroplast I’ve got a craving for glucose Yeah Yeah Yeah! (Chloroplasts) Those organelles (Chloroplasts) In plant and algae cells (Chloroplasts) More cowbell for chloroplasts (Chloroplasts) They are so green (Chloroplasts) It takes a microscope to see them (Chloroplasts) Good golly gee it’s chloroplasts (Chloroplasts) Those organelles (Chloroplasts) In plant and algae cells (Chloroplasts) More cowbell for chloroplasts (Chloroplasts) They are so green (Chloroplasts) It takes a microscope to see them (Chloroplasts) Good golly gee it’s chloroplasts Chloroplasts Chloroplasts

You get mashed potatoes You get mashed potatoes You get mashed potatoes If you put a potato in a tornado What do you get if you take a tomato And gently place it in a tornado? You get smashed tomatoes You get smashed tomatoes You get smashed tomatoes If you put a tomato in a tornado If you put a tomato in a tornado If you put a tomato in a tornado

A Long Winter’s Nap Let's make a date to hibernate From winter’s start to spring’s first day What could be greater Than a super hibernator? We won't miss much sleeping months and months There'll be no breakfast, lunch, or brunch all winter And no dinner A long winters nap could do me good Make or find a den I should In fall we'll feast on tasty treats Insects, bugs, branches, nuts, and berries We shall eat Thirty pounds a week A long winters nap could do me good Make or find a den I should We won’t freeze Our bodies Chilling' at 88 degrees Some may say Since our body's warmer We don't hibernate Instead we're in a state of torpor Don't cha quake about all you ate You won't need to take a potty break they’ll be no _and no_ A long winters nap could do me good Make or find a den I should A long winters nap could do me good Make or find a den I should

High up in the canopy Hanging with sloths and monkeys Green leaves and branches of trees What more could one need? We'd eat fruits and seeds Play constant games of hide and seek A home for life Nature in her full delight How I long to be In the canopy I'd give a flying fox a pat On his wings and on his back He'd flap, excited at that Did you know a flying fox is a bat? We’d sing songs in major keys Chimpanzees sing harmonies A home for life Nature in her full delight How I long to be In the canopy A home for life Nature in her full delight How I long to be In the canopy In the canopy In the canopy

Mister Bill the caterpillar Is a friend of mine We crawl around on the grassy ground Searching for butterflies He said his brothers flew away And if he had one wish He would have listened to his mother saying Make your chrysalis Eat your greens Eat every one you see You're gonna need lots of energy Growing wings, losing legs, and changing antennae We'll drink some nectar when you come out Mister Bill the caterpillar Surely is so sad He should have done what he didn't do And that’s just not polite From this day forward he'll do what's right And do as he is told Without a question he learned his lesson Make your chrysalis CHORUS Mister bill the caterpillar Was a friend of mine He flew away just the other day A beautiful butterfly (3x)

about

This is a collection of kids songs that I wrote for my students at St. George's School in Clifton Park, N.Y.

I sing high because children sing high. I know it sounds funny but it works.
